Microsoft is working with Amazon to sell the mobile operating system to the internet’s biggest online platform, Microsoft said today.
Microsoft, Amazon, Apple and Google are expected to announce a deal soon, according to people familiar with the matter.
The Microsoft-Amazon deal is expected to close by the end of 2019, the people said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss internal company matters.
Amazon and Microsoft declined to comment.
Microsoft has been trying to build a mobile OS for more than a decade, and the first Windows Phone was unveiled in 2007.
Since then, it has shipped a number of operating systems, including Android, iOS and WebOS, which are all powered by the Windows platform.
The platform has grown over the years, with Microsoft selling its mobile operating systems to Apple, Google and others.
Microsoft is also selling mobile operating devices and accessories, including headsets, in addition to Windows Phones and Windows 10 tablets.
