By Simon EvansPublished August 11, 2017 05:03:18Amazon has announced that it will soon launch a new way to publish books, with the publisher saying that it aims to create a more “innovative” publishing experience.
The new platform is called New Directions Publishing, and it will be available to publishers through its new Kindle app.
The book-selling site says it aims for a “high-quality, low-cost and flexible publishing solution that enables us to bring you books and magazines that are just as compelling as the original products that you have paid for.”
New Directions Publishing is a new subscription-based service that Amazon says it is launching with “major” publishers.
It will enable authors to “buy, sell and publish books for a variety of publishers, magazines and online sites.”
Publishers who subscribe to the service will be able to purchase books from a range of publishers and publishers will be eligible to get new titles published through the service.
New Directions also says that its new product is more than a “business opportunity.”
“This is an important new platform for publishers who want to leverage the power of Amazon Kindle as a distribution channel for their own books,” Amazon said in a statement.
“We have always said that New Directions is not a business model that works for every publisher, but we are thrilled that the vast majority of our customers have chosen this option and we look forward to working with them to create great products for them.”
The announcement comes a week after Amazon launched a new platform called Kindle Unlimited.
The company is also reportedly planning to open a new publishing facility in Boston in the coming weeks.
