A search of the Google News search engine for “christian bible books” turned up more than 400 results that had the same word in the title.
Of those, 39 per cent were titles published in the US, while 11 per cent had titles in the UK.
But of the 40 titles that were listed in the search results, only two were in the top ten bestsellers for the year.
“The books that are not on the list are usually those that are just about the Bible, books that have a lot of other things going on,” Dr Martin told ABC News Breakfast.
Dr Martin said she was not sure how the term “Christian bible” came to be used in Australia, but she thought it might have been a “bizarre and inappropriate term” for the title of a book about Christianity.
“I think it might be a little bit of a cultural thing,” she said.
“But it’s also probably just a matter of the sheer volume of Christian books and how many people have heard about the book and the fact that it’s the bible, I think that’s a bit of the factor here.”
